1. ESTABLISH THE RUNNING GAME
We have been saying it for weeks now, but the Jets must find a way to get the ground game going. Gang Green is averaging 78 ypg during its four-game losing streak. That is significantly different from the first nine games of the year when the Jets averaged 116 rushing yards.
The Jets are as good as their running game and if they can’t run the ball, they usually don’t win, it is that simple. The Seahawks defense is allowing 155.5 rushing yards, which is 31st in the league.
If the Jets can’t generate consistent yards on the ground against the Seahawks defense, their offense is in for another long day.
2. PROTECT THE QUARTERBACK
The last time Mike White was under center three weeks ago, he was getting battered and bruised by the Bills defense. The Jets offense line needs to do a better job protecting White so he can find open receivers down the field.
The Jets O-line allowed seven sacks in their last two games with Zach Wilson under center. They also allowed a ton of pressure in the backfield. Seattle ranks 16th in sacks with 36 on the year.
3. GENERATE PRESSURE ON GENO
The Jets received a considerable boost from the return of Quinnen Williams last week against the Jaguars as he created a strip sack on the game’s first drive. Gang Green needs to help out its offense by getting early turnovers.
When the Jets were 7-4, they relied on their defense to create turnovers and give their offense a short field to work with. In a hostile environment, it is essential for their defense to get after Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith and force him to make bad decisions.
Smith has been the league’s most accurate quarterback this year as he is completing 70.7% of his passes. That’s why the defensive line needs to create consistent havoc to avoid big plays down the field.
