Beloved Marin artisanal pizzeria is coming to Walnut Creek

Jacquelyn and Michael Baker live in Walnut Creek but have been commuting to Marin every day to make their artisanal pizzas.

Come late spring, they’ll be throwing pies much closer to home.

The Bakers, who own and operate Pizzalina in San Anselmo, are opening a second location of the beloved pizzeria and Italian restaurant at 2064 Treat Blvd., inside the Countrywood Shopping Center, in Walnut Creek. Jacquelyn Baker is hoping for a May debut but says the opening is dependent on how fast things move with the City of Walnut Creek. Pizzalina is taking over the spot that formerly housed Sorrento Italian Restaurant & Pizza.

Look for a menu of classic round pies and pan pizzas along with freshly made pastas, salads and rustic Italian cuisine. Michael, who is the chef and previously worked at Piatti’s in Danville, uses locally-milled flour, Bianco di Napoli tomatoes and local house-made mozzarella on his pies in San Anselmo, which total 13 and start at $21. Standouts include the Alto, featuring rosemary potatoes, leeks, fresh garlic and Pt. Reyes Toma, and the Manzanita with roasted winter squash, Fra Mani pancetta, balsamic roasted red onions and mozzarella.

The San Anselmo restaurant also serves antipasti, like burrata and meatballs, and a selection of entrees, including risotto and King salmon with gnocchi. Don’t miss the sides, house-made desserts and Italian-centric wine list. Details: www.pizzalina.com
