SAN JOSE – A bicyclist has died after being hit by a car earlier this month in San Jose, police said.
The collision was reported Sept. 11 at 9:49 p.m. at Murphy and Ringwood avenues. San Jose police said a man was riding an electric bicycle eastbound in the No. 1 lane of Murphy when he came to a stop at the intersection despite having a green light. A 2017 Lexus sedan traveling in the same direction and lane then rear-ended the bicycle.
The man was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries and was stabilized, police said. The driver of the Lexus, meanwhile, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. There were no signs of alcohol or drug impairment, police said.
On Wednesday, the man suffered complications related to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police said. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity once it has been confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The death marked the 48th fatal collision and 50th traffic fatality of the year on city streets.
