CONCORD — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a body found Saturday afternoon on an embankment off Highway 4 near Port Chicago Highway.
The CHP responded to a report, shortly after 2 p.m., that a body was on the embankment on the south side of the highway, said Officer Andrew Barclay. The body wasn’t visible from the highway.
Little else could be reported as of late Saturday afternoon, other than that the CHP’s investigative unit had responded to the scene to learn why and how the person ended up in that location and the circumstances of the person’s death, Barclay said.
The CHP response and investigation prompted the closure of the eastbound lanes of Highway 4, particularly the far right lane. A special traffic alert was issued for the highway at around 2:36 p.m, and was still in place as of 5 p.m.
Update: Special traffic alert remains with no estimated time of reopening in #Concord Eastbound Hwy 4 after Port Chicago Hwy, due to police activity with the two left lanes open. #KCBSTraffic 📷 @CaltransD4 pic.twitter.com/kqk6B5no9L
