This component of cabbage with anti-ulcer properties was initially identified by scientists as “vitamin U” due to its anti-ulcer properties, but was later referred to as S-methylmethionine sulfonium chloride (SMMS). SMMS helps to increase the production of mucin, a mucous membrane secretion, which helps to maintain a protective layer on the esophagus and stomach surface.
The juice of cabbages is also a great source of sulforaphane, an antioxidant that is a powerful bactericide that protects against Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria responsible for the majority of peptic ulcers.

Can you eat cabbage raw for ulcers?
Eating raw cabbage can provide the same benefits as cabbage juice for ulcers, although this will not be as practical as consuming cabbage juice. Juicing cabbage juice will eliminate the fiber in cabbage that contributes to gas and other digestive discomforts.
Cabbage juice also provides better nutrient absorption in comparison to consuming whole cabbage. It’s also easier to consume in the necessary quantity when juiced compared to eating huge amounts of coleslaw salad.

Cabbage juice can easily be prepared at home using a juicer or a blender. Adding vegetables such as carrots and celery and fruit such as apples will help neutralize the pungent taste that cabbage juice has.
Cabbage juice recipe for ulcers
Add a small head of purple or green cabbage or half a medium cabbage to make up about 60% of the cabbage juice mix. Add enough celery to make up about 15% of the juice mix.
Add enough carrots to make up about 15% of the total cabbage juice mix. Add enough apple to add flavor if but sure make sure it doesn’t constitute more than 10% of the juice mix.
