Javonte Green will undergo an arthroscopic debridement procedure on his right knee Wednesday, sidelining the Chicago Bulls forward for at least two more weeks.
Green has been intermittently sidelined with a bone bruise in his right knee since the Bulls faced the Golden State Warriors on Dec. 12. He missed three games following the injury, then returned for a pair of three-game stints before discomfort and pain forced him back onto the injury list. Green has missed 13 games in total this season.
Before Green’s injury, coach Billy Donovan had planned to move him into the starting rotation to replace third-year forward Patrick Williams. Green was injured in the first game of the rotational experiment, which also saw second-year guard Ayo Dosunmu replaced by veteran Alex Caruso. Both Green and Caruso have since suffered injuries that forced Donovan to remain with his initial starters.
Green will be re-evaluated by the Bulls medical staff two weeks after the procedure. The Bulls did not provide a timeline for his return following the re-evaluation period.
This is Green’s third year in Chicago, where he has become a reliable source of defensive rigor and offensive energy as an adaptable rotation player. Green has averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds off the bench this season.
