OAKLAND — A 52-year-old Southern California man was fatally shot Sunday night as he was driving in East Oakland, authorities said.
The name of the man has not yet been released.
Authorities said he has ties to Oakland but most recently was living in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles County. Police believe he was in Oakland visiting friends.
He was shot about 11:28 p.m. Sunday as he was driving in the 8700 block of Dowling Street. He was found inside his vehicle after it crashed into a parked vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police don’t have a motive yet for the shooting and have not made any arrests.
The killing is the 57th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has also investigated four homicides on Oakland freeways. Last year at this time Oakland police had investigated 67 homicides in the city.
