OAKLEY — A 62-year-old man died late last week after an apparent vehicle collision after his own solo collision, authorities said.

In a statement posted to a city Website, Oakley police said officers responded at 10:47 p.m. Friday to reports of a collision involving a motorcycle at Laurel and Brown roads.

When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist and pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation by traffic investigators, the motorcyclist landed in the roadway after his solo collision. No cause for the collision was immediately available, “but it is possible [he] suffered a medical condition while riding,” the statement read in part.

Soon after, a motorist identified only as an Oakley resident was driving on the road and struck the motorcyclist.

Police said the driver, who stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, did not see the motorcyclist, identified as Derrick Canada, 62, of Oakley. Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be collision factors, police added.

The roadway was closed for about two hours to allow investigators to process the scene. Although no one was arrested in connection with the collision, officers will submit their investigation to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for a decision on any possible charges.

Anyone with information may call Oakley police at 925-625-8855.
