RICHMOND — At least one person died after a multi-vehicle collision Wednesday that blocked multiple Interstate 80 lanes, authorities said.
Shortly after 10:25 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a collision involving three vehicles just off eastbound I-80 lanes just west of the Richmond Parkway off-ramp, a CHP officer said.
When officers arrived, they found at least one person lying in the roadway outside an overturned vehicle. Despite emergency life-saving efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The person’s identity was not available Wednesday night, pending next-of-kin notification from the Contra Costa Sheriff”s Office coroner’s bureau.
Officers worked to set up traffic breaks at the roadway’s El Portal Road exit before issuing a Sig-alert at 10:42 p.m. blocking all eastbound lanes and the No. 1 or left-most westbound lanes. At 10:55 p.m., the CHP updated the alert by blocking all eastbound and westbound lanes.
Anyone with information about the collision may call the CHP’s Oakland office at 510-957-8247.
