Every day, people live with anxiety, insecurities, sadness and past trauma that holds them back without realizing they can overcome the situation and live happier, successful lives. Open Doors to Future Possibilities, a California-based 501(c)(3) Nonprofit, has stepped into this space to help people live happy and fulfilling lives. The organization has its first annual fundraiser event slated for September 17 at Club Sportiva in San Jose from 3 pm to 7 pm. The event is an initiative to raise money to help the organization expand so they can help thousands more transform their lives for the better.
Open Doors to Future Possibilities, Inc. was founded in 2019 by Dr. Simone Lundquist, a counselor and full-time professor of Clinical Psychology at San Jose State University. She holds three Master’s degrees in Literature, Linguistics, Research and Clinical Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. With over 40 years of experience as a teacher at various prestigious institutions and more than 30 years of experience as a counselor, Dr. Lundquist has willingly dedicated her life to serving people from different walks of life at community mental health agencies and in private practice. She has helped hundreds of people overcome depression, anxiety, insecurities, and past trauma so they could live a happier life. To fulfill her lifetime dream of making these services available to all marginalized and vulnerable members of the community, Dr. Lundquist decided to take this initiative further and founded Open Doors to Future Possibilities.
The organization has three major programs: a Consultation Center, a Veterans Program and a Homeless Outreach Program. The first is the Consultation Center which serves low-income clients, making them feel heard, seen, understood, respected, and responded to without being stigmatized. The service is offered for only $10 an hour, with the intention of ensuring every client leaves the session better than they were, with more strength and resilience, equipped with effective skills to establish and maintain happy relationships. Since 2019 the Consultation Center has helped hundreds of children, teenagers, and young and older adults. In addition to counseling, a team of trained tutors has provided almost 600 hours of tutoring to clients to help them achieve their educational goals and obtain employment.
The second program is the Veterans Program dedicated to providing free services to Veterans and their families. These services include free counseling for Veterans to ease war trauma, stress, loss, depression, anxiety, and anger; and, most importantly, ensure a smooth transition into civilian life. Since Open Doors to Future Possibilities started the Veterans Program in 2020, they have served more than 1500 Veterans in transitional housing, distributed more than 6500 food boxes, 2000 pairs of shoes and socks, clothes and other essential supplies as well as connected them to resources. Through their partners they have helped house more than 100 Veterans. Additionally, more than 40 Veterans, after utilizing the counseling services have been able to go through a smooth transition into civilian life, rebuilding relationships with family members and friends and moving vigorously towards their goals.
Thirdly, Open Doors to Future Possibilities has offered a Homeless Outreach Program since 2020. Through this program, the organization serves the local homeless community with food, shoes, socks, clothes, and other supplies. The Homeless Outreach Program also offers free counseling to homeless community members to help them achieve emotional and mental well-being. In addition, they provide resources for educational and employment opportunities and help them obtain housing. So far, the program has served over 12,000 homeless community members and is looking forward to helping more with the upcoming fundraiser event.
Open Doors to Future Possibilities promises a warm Saturday afternoon amongst great people at their first annual fundraiser, Highways to Future Possibilities! There will be live music, a live auction, exotic car show, inspiring speeches, food, drinks, and more. The event scheduled for 3 pm to 7 pm at Club Sportiva in San Jose on September 17 has entry tickets priced at $50 each. It covers admission, meal and drink tickets, and parking.
