Midpen board seats open
The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District has four seats on its board up for grabs in the Nov. 8 election, including the Ward 5 seat that covers Sunnyvale. Interested candidates have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 12 to file the required paperwork.
Midpen’s board members serve four-year terms and represent seven geographic wards of approximately equal populations. The board holds its regular public meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m.
Eligible board candidates must be registered voters residing within the ward they seek to represent and are required to gather signatures from 50 registered voters in their ward on a nomination form provided by Midpen’s clerk at 650-691-1200 or clerk@openspace.org.

Take a hike
Bay Area Older Adults is hosting two hikes in August.
Take an easy-to-moderate 3.5 mile walk in the coastal redwoods with an expert on said trees, then stroll the beach in Capitola on Aug. 3, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For more information and to register, visit https://www.bayareaolderadults.org/BAO-August2022-day-trip.
A leisurely walk along Coyote Creek is set for Aug. 24 to demonstrate that even during the drought, creeks provide habitat for wildlife such as shorebirds, swallows and songbirds as well as amphibians and reptiles. Participants will practice mindful exercises in forest-bathing, or shinrin-yoku, to seek mutual healing for themselves and the environment. The walk is set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and lunch is included. Register at https://www.bayareaolderadults.org/bao-hikes.
