SAN JOSE — The now-shuttered San Jose site of a high-profile retailer could become a tire sales outlet, plans on file with the city show.
America’s Tire is slated to rise at 1009 Blossom Hill Road in San Jose, according to the San Jose planning documents.
That location was the long-time site of a Pier 1 Imports store that operated for numerous years at the location until the store closed its doors in 2020. Pier 1 sold imported home furnishings and decor, primarily furniture, table-top items, decorative accessories, and seasonal decor.
The closure of that San Jose store ultimately became part of the collapse of the brick-and-mortar stores operated by Pier 1 Imports nationwide. Jolted by declining sales and profits, a bankruptcy filing and the economic effects of the coronavirus, Pier 1 closed all of its stores in 2020.
In 2020, Retail Ecommerce Ventures bought the rights to Pier 1 and revived it as an online-only e-commerce merchant.
Halle Properties, an Arizona-based developer, has proposed that the existing retail building, which totals 10,000 square feet, be bulldozed.
The new building would be one-story in height with a mezzanine floor, the preliminary city plans show.
